Well we have a.....
Goldfish
Will lost a game of hoopla at the fair so they gave him a fish
omg!!! false economy!!! i had go go out and buy evian for it as i had no water conditioner (dodnt reallise that!) then looking in to it, you arent supposed to use a fish bowl as they dont have enough surface area, so had to get oxygenating pellets, then we fet sorry for it so brought it some gravel and some fern... its cost like £10 for this fish that was free haha.
It is a bit cute though Tyler called it Ponyo (as in the movie)

Re: Well we have a.....
cool and your not meant to put them straight in tap water but you can as I learnt a few weeks ago, also you will need at least a 2ft tank for ponyo as they grow to about 12inches.

Re: Well we have a.....
We did at first, but she didnt look very happy, so we changed it to evian. Luton water is quite chlorinated and I'd imagine that wether you can or not would depend on the water in your area surely? I have the chlorine remover now though, so not a problem. I have a little round fish tank that she came with at the moment, going to see if she lives first, I wont buy a 2ft tank for one goldfish either lol if she gets to 12 inches she will be put up for adoption! Thats wayy off anyways, shes about 3 or 4 cms at the moment.
Re: Well we have a.....
freecycle is good for free fishtanks lol. I don't even bother with that dechlorinator stuff as think its a waste of money I just leave water to stand for 24hrs before changing it over.

Last year i got 2 goldfishs from the fair. one didn't last long but the other one manage to stay alive for a long time. I got home and i put them in the normal tank with normal water and they were fine.

until i put my goldfish on the main tank i had him in a bowl. He manage to survive for more than 5 months on it. I just change the water once every week.

Re: Well we have a.....
I have oxygen tablets elaine, they release oxygen to the water like a filter would, you can get them from wilkos. I dont really want a bigger tank to be honest, cause its in my kitchen and theres nowhere else thats safe away from tyler that i can put it. I guess if it does get too big i'll just give it to my friend who has an aquarium.
Re: Well we have a.....
oxygen tablets are just a waste of money hun, people have kept goldfish in bowls for centuries (although I don't agree with it), problem with keeping them in bowls is it stunts their bodies growth but not their internal organs causing them a very slow and painful death over years as they can't develop to their proper potential http://thegab.org/Goldfish/goldfish-basics.html

Re: Well we have a.....
im still not getting a big tank julie! I dont have room for one, my mum kept fish for years and she said its ok for him to be in that tank and if in a month or so hes still alive then i should get him one like this - http://www.wilkinsonplus.com/Aquariums+Fish-Tanks/Wilko-Fish-TankVivarium-11ltr/invt/0080104?htxt=PsAGyAqy/DSGVBgOHPBfATKVETOKIWHcwqoICuDrG/xTcDPfxIrYzUvEu76RzzM6wutKTeo9AOCB%0AtDs76aYYKg%3D%3D
And she told me to get an air rock, and that will be sufficient.
Hes a happy little fish though, already not scared of me and it has one of Tylers old cups in there as a little room, and it loves it!

Re: Well we have a.....
See I disagree in keeping them in things like that think of it this way would you want to be kept in a box room that is also your toilet too??? A good fish for that size tank is a siamese fighter or a small shoal of whitecloud minnows they are more low maintenence than a goldfish which are very muck fish that poo for england.

Re: Well we have a.....
Sorry not being judgemental just don't agree with goldfish being kept that way when there are plenty of other fish that are more suited to that sort of environment, in my eyes its still animal cruelty even if it is common practice afterall would you keep a rabbit in a hamster cage just because it fits in there as a baby???

Re: Well we have a.....
Well you are sort of being judgemental by saying that im committing animal cruelty. Im stupid I thought that we were better friends than for you to be THAT harsh.
We got the fish on sunday afternoon, at a funfair as a losing prize, we said yeah as we thought it would be good for tyler, we brought the tank from the fair, noone said the tank they were selling us was bad for the fish! And i said ok because the tank is smal enough to fit in my house. At the moment im about to go on holiday so i dont have time or the money to be running round getting a big fish tank or all the parts. When I get back if ithe fish is ok, i'll consider the tank i already posted a link to which is more than adequate.
Thanks for your support on this though

Re: Well we have a.....
I didnt mean to come across that way, I'm just saying that I don't agree with people keeping them like that and that there are more suitable fish for that size tank than a goldfish which are not a small fish and aren't meant to stay small thats all. When I was younger we kept a goldfish from the fair in a goldfish bowl and yes he survived for 6 long years in there however a goldfish has the potential life span of 25yrs plus in the right conditions. I'm not saying you have to go out and spend a small fortune on getting the right stuff but I'm also not going to sugar coat things and say that the stuff sold as being appropriate for said animal is right either as its not just like the same tank isn't suitable for the lizards it portrays either. When I got my geckos with so called complete set up from a petshop I was told by experienced keepers that I was sold inappropriate stuff for them so I had a few choices keep them wrong and risk premature painful death, get rid of them or get the right equipment.
All I am trying to do by replying is point you in te right direction that is all
